Coyote Builds North America

Victoria Park Pavilion | 80 Schneider Street in Kitchener

Based on Native American stories with music inspired by the landscape and people of the far north, Coyote Builds North America amalgamates the ancient art of storytelling with contemporary music, dance and live art. Bringing together these artistic communities takes us back to a time when the arts were an integral part of daily life.

While storyteller Rae Crossman spins the tales of the trickster character Coyote, the stories are brought to life through music written by Alaskan composer John Luther Adams, original choreography by Sarah Jane Burton, costume and design by Jerrard Smith, and visual art created in real time by Anishinaabe artist Rene Meshake.

Coyote, a complex and powerful character, is one of the oldest figures in human legend. Text by award-winning author Barry Lopez, these timeless stories have universal appeal to young and old and are a reflection of the human spirit.
