TEXT/URE
DaCapo Chamber Choir with Marlin Nagtegaal, organ

St. John the Evangelist Church | 23 Water Street North in Kitchener

Leonard Enns, artistic director of the DaCapo Chamber Choir, has assembled this programme of works by Canadian and international composers around the central theme of “texture.” From the blurring of a Bach chorale through multiple tempi in Nysted’s Immortal Bach to the ringing overtones of Sarah Hopkins’ Past Life Melodies, this programme presents some of the ways in which choral music has been exploring the new worlds of sound offered by a foregrounding of texture and colour over the more traditional elements of pitch, rhythm or harmony. Also featured are two solo keyboard works:  an organ work by leading Swiss organist, composer and teacher Guy Bovet, and the premiere of Piano Sonata No. 1 by local composer Leonard Enns, commissioned by Catherine Robertson.
